In a sweet collaborative project between Erin (designformankind.com) and Jeff (booooooom.com), comes a batch of 10 different postcards sporting love, encouragement, support, and other niceties. In a time filled with economic trouble, these are the perfect things to show your support to the people you love.

My favorite one is the one that states "your new beard makes you look wiser." Check them out!

Facsimile #1 and OBJECTIVE NON NARRATIVE by Shawn Eisenach

For the past couple of months, Shawn Eisenach has been sending us awesome little booklets full of his artwork that he collects each month and binds together and makes editions of around 50 for each issue. You can find them for sale here for a mere $7 bucks.

Shawn was also a participant in The Sketchbook Project 3, and he's made an edition of 25 replicas of his incredible sketchbook that he submitted. Entitled "Exray Style", they are available here for $7!

After tour reflections

Following along with Steven's post from yesterday, I wanted to also reflect on the tour and happenings.

First off, it was great to meet so many of you who've been participating in our projects and all of the people who came to look at the sketchbooks. It was crazy seeing so many people at each show armed with a camera and then seeing all of the photos of the events popping up online afterwords.

To me, the coolest thing about being on the tour, at galleries other than our own, is that it gave me a chance to see the exhibition and project from a whole new angle. When we have shows at Art House I'm stuck running around in the back, helping serve drinks, answering questions, and other forms of TCB (taking care of business). For these 6 shows we just had on the road, I could finally experience the project from the viewer's point of view. Looking through the books in a crowded gallery with hundreds of people all around you looking through thousands of other books, all gushing to their friends about the awesome page they just discovered in the book they were looking at and passing it around brings a whole new dynamic to just viewing them alone in a quiet room. People would grab stacks of 3-5 books and walk away to try to find open space to look through them. By the end of each night, the viewing experience became communal, and the crowds became the curators. With thousands of books on display, it's impossible to view each and every one in a night, but help was given to you in choosing what to look at by the people standing next to you. It was an amazing thing to see.

Hello! Were home!

Well we made it home. 4,420 miles. We are both really tired and glad to be home. It was an awesome experience though to meet everyone and to have so many people get to be a part of the experience. I'm listing some interesting write ups about the trip below....

Hello all!

Well we just finished the 2nd show of the tour at Chris's Jazz Cafe in Philly. It was a really fun show with a live band playing! After the show we headed into NJ to stay with my father. We got some Pizza when we got here. O, how I missed pizza from up north! Its just not the same in Atlanta. Tomorrow is our first day off! We are supper excited to relax a bit after two REALLY full days. We will be heading up to New York to go to the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens so we can see the diner set from Seinfeld. Oh, and the puffy Shirt!!!! Then, on Friday, it's off to Boston!! Should be a good time!

Washington DC! Tour Blog #2

Hello from good old Washington DC. Well tonight is the first night. It took us 14 hours to make the 10 hour drive from Atlanta to Washington. One because we got a flat tire and two because apparently everything closes in North Carolina when it snows. We finally made it at 11:30 last night. We spent the very cold day here checking out the city and seeing the MOCA DC where the show will be tonight. We are super excited. Though we didn't see Obama, we did stand outside the Whitehouse!! So, if you're in the area we hope to see you at the show tonight! If not we hope to see you at any of the other shows! Pictures of Shane in front of the monument coming soon!

Sketchbook Tour Travel Blog #1 (We haven't left yet)

Welcome to the Art House Travel Blog for our Sketchbook project tour. As you may or may not know, Shane and I are driving those little sketchbooks all over the country to each city we are going. We are hoping to meet lots of the new people and see lots of awesome stuff! Of course we will be keeping you updated every step of the way!

This is my first entry of the tour. Its Saturday and we are leaving in two days. Tonight we meeting up at the gallery to start planning how we are going to fit this all into Shane's little car. It a two door Honda Civic. Not very practical we know! Last night we kicked everything off with the first stop, our gallery here in Atlanta, Ga. What an awesome time it was! We had a huge crowd at the gallery as well as a packed live feed online! I want to say, how awesome everyone's book is. We were BLOWN AWAY about the talent from every book we got! Everyone at the show was also blown away by all your talent. People stayed for hours flipping through all your books!

Monday we set off for Washington DC! Its about a 10 hour drive from Atlanta to Washington. We will arrive late Monday. The show is at the Museum of Contemporary Art DC. Its will be from 7-10 on Tuesday night. Please come visit us and say hi if you are in the area! We would love to meet as many of you as possible.

Art House Artist in Residence 2009

Art House Artist in Residence Program

Art House is selecting artists on an ongoing basis to be an artist in residence. Artists will live in Art House Gallery for one month and will have access to full print shop as well as gallery space. Artist will present work made during residences during the Castleberry Hill Art Walk in Atlanta, GA at the end of the residences. The artist will work with Art House Curator to create a show for the art walk.

Program Cost: $400

Included: Living space, 24 hour access to print shop/ studio (with etching press, letter press, and screen print equipment), Gallery space for art work and free entry into 4 Art House Projects. Featured artist space on Art House website for no less then 3 months.
To apply please email 10 images of your work in JPG format with each file being no bigger then 1mb each, a one page proposal on how you would utilize the space to create a viewer interactive piece, an artist resume, and a one paragraph BIO with contact info included. Please include phone number as well. Please specify which session you would prefer.

There is no charge to apply.

One application per artist.

Artist will be notified by April 10th 2009

For those of you who don't already know, we have started the Sketchbook Project 3! We are traveling to 6 different cities this time (and are about to add a couple more!) All you need to do is sign up, receive your the sketchbook we send you, and then work in it and send it back to us! Then we will take it on tour to museums and galleries all over the place! This is a great opportunity to add a bunch of shows to your resume and also create some awesome work along with artists from all over the world!

Stuff your Sorries in a Sack Show!!

Hey everyone! On October 24th we had the opening for "Stuff your Sorries in a Sack" project. It was really fun! It was on one of our art walk nights and even in the rain we got a few hundred people that stopped by! I'm putting up a picture of the sacks as well as some of the other stuff that was up that night! Dear Everyone,

Hello, Steven here! With the fall coming, Shane and I have decided to make a little promise to all of our participants. We realize the need and the want to receive items from projects much faster then you have in the past. However, this was very slow and sometimes took months for you to receive your item, causing you to possibly lose trust and excitement in our projects. We want to change that. Starting now, with any new project we start, you will receive your package in less then 2 weeks (unless otherwise stated.) We hope that this will allow more creativity to flow and more time for you to work on your creations.

Speaking of new projects, we have some exciting new things on the horizon. Our next project is called The Scavenger Project, which is a scavenger hunt of sorts. When you sign up, we will send you a confidential folder with a list of 24 items. The things on the list are not just things you can find anywhere. They are things you have to look for. And they are not just items, they are moments and scenarios. It will allow you to be creative and to compare what you come up with to other people all over the world!

Here is the best part: It is going to made into a book! Everyone who participates in this project will have at least one picture in the book. The goal of the book is to showcase how a mass of creatives will portray subjects differently based on their own experience, their individual eye, and geographic location. We're excited to give everyone a chance to be published in a book!

Our new website – which Shane has been hard at work on and will be done in about a month or so – will allow for even more communication between participants. You will be able to post your progress on projects, upload photos as you work and even ask for critiques and suggestions! We will have areas that will let you communicate with others involved in the same projects so you can collaborate and brainstorm together. We are looking to bring the artists "co-op" feel to the internet!

We want to thank everyone who has ever been a part of Art House! We are so excited about the future and hope that you are, too. Without everyone's excitement, none of this would be possible.

One of the best parts about putting together the communal art projects is having the privilege of opening the packages when they come in the mail. The Sketchbook Project deadline is approaching soon, so we've started to see them trickle in. Here's two of our favorites so far:

Carmella Rizzuto from Sunnyvale, Ca suggests that tea is the best path to save the world.

Rebecca Horwood from Oxford, England sent us her sketchbook in a sweet package with a bunch of sticker goodies!

We've gotten about 26 prints for the Great Art House Print Exchange. If you signed up for it and haven't submitted your prints yet, please send them in ASAP. We'd love to get another 14 sets in so we can collate two sets of 20. We'll post some more prints in the future, but we've dying to show off Junkyard Sam's print:

Stuff Your Sorries in a Sack

Stuff your baggage in the sack we send you and move on with your life - because this project is all about letting go.

We're sending out up to 500 little sacks that we want you to fill with things that you need to get off your chest. We will then be hosting a reception for them at our gallery in Atlanta, Ga where we will put your sacks filled with your old baggage out in the open and let people experience what you have moved on from.
